April 4-11

Men's Golf

Men's golf opened their spring season at the two-day William Woods Invitational. The Blue Jays placed 13th. On Saturday, they played a dual with William Woods.

What's next? The Blue Jays compete in the McNaughton Classic hosted by Illinois College on Monday. They also play in the two-day Blueboy Invitational hosted by Illinois College on Friday and Saturday. 

 

Baseball

Seniors Tyler Branneky and Deion Hughes broke career records as baseball went 2-3 on the week. The Blue Jays split with Principia on Tuesday as Branneky broke the home run record. The Blue Jays won game one 17-4, but lost the second 15-13. The three-game weekend series with Webster was tabbed as the SLIAC Game of the Week. On Saturday, the Blue Jays split with Webster and Hughes broke the complete game pitching career record. They lost game one, 1-0, but went on to win game two, 6-0.  On Sunday, the Blue Jays lost 14-2 in seven innings.

What's next? The Blue Jays have a three-game series with Eureka on Saturday (doubleheader) and Sunday at Eureka. 

 

Softball

Softball went 3-1 on the week in conference play. They swept Webster on Tuesday, 7-5 and 11-4. On Saturday, the Blue Jays split with MacMurray as junior Erica Burney broke the season RBI record. They lost the first 4-3, but flipped the score and won game two 4-3. 

What's next? The Blue Jays have two home conference doubleheaders this week. They host Fontbonne on Wednesday starting at 5:00 pm, and Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday starting at 1:00 pm. 

 

Men's Tennis

The Blue Jays dropped their only match of the week to Principia, 9-0. Sunday's match at Missouri Valley was cancelled due to rain. 

What's next? The Blue Jays have three matches on the week including two conference matches. To start their week, they host Greenville on Tuesday at 4:30 pm. On Thursday, they play two matches in St. Louis, Mo. They start with a match vs. St. Louis College of Pharmacy as a reschedule at 1:00 pm. At 6:00 pm, they play Fontbonne. 

 

Women's Tennis

Women's tennis went 2-0 on the week to start conference play. On Friday, they defeated Greenville 6-3, and Saturday they swept Blackburn, 9-0. 

What's next? The Blue Jays continue their conference schedule with an away match at Fontbonne on Thursday. On Saturday, the Blue Jays host Principia College at 11:00 am. 

 

Women's Track & Field

Freshman Jessie Kuykendall placed first in the 5000-meter run, helping the Blue Jays to a ninth place finish at the Central Methodist Invite on Saturday. The team combined for 16 points with four top 10 finishes. 

What's next? The Blue Jays next compete in the Darrel Gourley Open hosted by William Jewell College on Saturday.

 

Men's Track & Field

The Westminster men's track and field team placed first in two events during Saturday's Central Methodist Invite, leading the Blue Jays to a tie for sixth place with 36 points. Juniors Bret Robertson and Glenn Teubner grabbed first place finishes in the javelin throw and 5,000-meter run, respectively.

What's next? The Blue Jays next compete in the Darrel Gourley Open hosted by William Jewell College on Saturday. 

 

Westminster Athletes of the Week

Erica Burney (softball) and Collin Brinker (baseball) are this week's Westminster Athletes of the Week.

Erica Burney, a sophomore from Ste. Genevieve, Mo., hit .733 on the week with a 1.267 slugging percentage. She broke the season RBI record in Saturday's split with MacMurray, and on the week, she had seven RBI and 11 hits with two doubles and two home runs.

Collin Brinker, a senior from Auxvasse, Mo., pitched a two-hitter against Webster University. He grabbed the complete game win on the mound with a 0.00 ERA while striking out seven batters.
