Lacrosse Addition

The Westminster athletic department announced last week the addition of men's and women's lacrosse to the list of offered sports. The two teams will begin as a club sport in 2017 and transition into intercollegiate programs soon after. 

 

National Athletic Trainer of the Year

Westminster's head athletic trainer Josh Thompson was named the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) NCAA Division III Athletic Trainer of the Year. He will receive the award this June at the annual conference in Baltimore, Md. 

 

Softball

Softball split with Rhodes College on Tuesday. They won game one 7-4 before dropping game two.

What's next? The Blue Jays are currently in California for their spring break trip. They play a doubleheader at the University of Redlands on Monday at 2:00 and 4:00 PDT (4:00 and 6:00 central time). On Tuesday, they play a doubleheader at San Diego Christian starting at 1:00 and 3:00 PDT (11:00 am and 1:00 central time). They close out their spring break trip on Wednesday with a single game versus Pomona-Pitzer starting at 6:30 PDT (4:30 central time). They have a quick turnaround when they return home as they jump back on a bus and travel to Eureka for their conference-opener on Saturday.

 

Men's Tennis

Men's tennis opened up their conference season as well as their home season with a match versus Webster on Tuesday. The Blue Jays won 6-3 after a doubles sweep. 

What's next? The Blue Jays do not play again until after spring break.

 

Baseball

The baseball team took last week off as they prepped for their spring break trip.

What's next? The team begins their four-game spring break stretch in the Tucson Invitational on Monday in Tucson, Arizona. The Blue Jays play Middlebury and Williams on Monday at 11:00 am and 2:30 MST (1:00 and 4:30 central time). On Tuesday, they repeat Monday's schedule. On Saturday, they play a conference doubleheader at Greenville College. 

 

Westminster Athletes of the Week

Caty Barrett (softball) and Pete Hasenmueller (men's tennis) are this week's Westminster Athletes of the Week.

Caty Barrett, a freshman from Sturgeon, Mo., went 2-for-3 from the plate with a double and four RBI in the win over Rhodes College. 

Pete Hasenmueller, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., won two last week in the 6-3 win over Webster. He and his doubles partner, Reese Hicks, won in the two spot 8-3. In singles play, he swept his opponent with 6-1 scores in the three spot.
