Important Awards

Women's basketball senior Kasey Gatson was chosen as the SLIAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, volleyball junior Amanda Kiso won the National Outstanding Student Award, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee was named the Outstanding Philanthropic Program for their Coaches vs. Cancer event!

 

Men's Golf

Men's golf finished their season at the SLIAC Golf Championship on Monday and Tuesday. The team placed 7th at the championship and recorded their lowest round of golf since 2011.

 

Softball

Softball went 2-2 on the week. They started the week on Monday at Greenville and dropped both games, 6-5 and 4-0. On Sunday, the Blue Jays celebrated Senior Day with their doubleheader versus Spalding. The teams went into 10 innings in game one, but the Blue Jays pulled out a 5-4 win. They completed the sweep with an 8-2 game two win. 

What's next? Softball finishes out their regular season with two home doubleheaders. The Blue Jays host Blackburn on Tuesday at 2:00 pm. On Saturday, they host Principia for their season finale starting at 1:00 pm. ***The weather this week is not softball weather, so please check the website for any changes to the schedule!

 

Men's Tennis

Men's tennis finished their season last week. The Blue Jays placed fourth in the SLIAC Tournament. They began the tournament with a 5-1 loss to Principia, but they went on to defeat Fontbonne 5-0 to be placed in the third place match. The Blue Jays lost 5-4 to Webster to earn fourth place in the tournament. Earlier in the week, the Blue Jays lost their final regular season match to Missouri Valley, 9-0.

 

Women's Tennis

Women's tennis played Webster on Wednesday. The match was filled with rain, but Webster was able to pull out a 5-1 win.

What's next? The team closes out their regular season on Monday with a home match versus Stephens College at 4:00 pm. On Friday, they start the SLIAC Tournament. 

 

Women's Track & Field

Freshman Jessie Kuykendall broke the 10,000-meter record at the Meet of Champions on Friday, shaving almost 20 seconds off the 2015 record. The Blue Jays placed 12th with five points. 

What's next? The Blue Jays compete in the True Blue Twilight  hosted by Illinois College on Friday, April 29. Competitions start at 4:00 pm.

 

Men's Track & Field

The Blue Jays placed 13th at the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College on Saturday.

Baseball

Baseball went 2-0 on the week with a conference sweep over MacMurray College. Senior Deion Hughes broke the season wins and complete game records in the game one 5-4 win. Junior Connor Hager hit a grand slam in the win, and the Blue Jays went on to win game two 9-2. 

What's next? The Blue Jays host Blackburn College on Wednesday for a doubleheader starting at 4:00 pm. On Saturday, they begin their final three-game series against Iowa Wesleyan. The home doubleheader starts at 1:00 pm on Saturday, and the series finale starts on Sunday at 1:00 pm. ***The weather this week is not baseball weather, so please check the website for any changes to the schedule!

 

Men's Lacrosse

The Blue Jays hired Ben Murphy to start the men's lacrosse program at Westminster starting on May 2. If interested in playing for the Blue Jays, email Ben at Ben.Murphy@westminster-mo.edu.

 

Westminster Athletes of the Week

Jessie Kuykendall (women's track & field) and Collin Brinker (baseball) are this week's athletes of the week.

Jessie Kuykendall, a freshman from Warsaw, Mo., broke the 10,000-meter run record at Friday's Meet of Champions. She shaved almost 20 seconds off the 2015 record, placing fifth with her 40:08.76 race.

Collin Brinker, a senior from Auxvasse, Mo., grabbed the win on the mound in Saturday's 9-2 win over MacMurray. He pitched seven innings, allowed no runs and struck out six.
