SLIAC Winter Academic All-Conference

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2015-16 Winter Academic All-Conference Team and the women's basketball team had eight student-athletes named! The student-athletes are sophomores, juniors or seniors that maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA while playing a winter sport. If you see Krista Armontrout, Payton Beeler, Kasey Gatson, Payton Gruber, Bailey Mitchell, Brittany Morris, Mikaela Ruga and Andrea Zalis, make sure to congratulate them!

 

Baseball

The baseball team went 5-1 on the week with a series sweep over Robert Morris over the weekend! They opened the week with two conference wins over Fontbonne at home. They went for the series sweep, but fell 12-7 on Tuesday to earn their only loss on the week. On Saturday, the Blue Jays hosted Robert Morris for a doubleheader and won 4-1 and 3-2. On Sunday, they closed out the three-game series with a 10-0 eight inning win to complete the sweep.

What's next? The Blue Jays do not see the field again until their spring break trip in Tucson, Arizona.

 

Men's Track & Field

Junior Glenn Teubner shattered the four-year old 3000-meter mark by almost 20 seconds in Saturday's outdoor season opener at Central Methodist. The Blue Jays placed 10th at the CMU Open with a total of 17 points, and Teubner scored 10 of the Blue Jays' 17 points.

What's next? The Blue Jays compete in their second outdoor meet of the season on Thursday at the Wildcat Open hosted by Culver-Stockton.  

 

Women's Track & Field

The Westminster women's track and field team opened the 2016 outdoor season at the CMU Open hosted by Central Methodist University. The Westminster Blue Jays placed ninth out of 11 with 10 points. Freshman Jessie Kuykendall scored six of the Blue Jays' 10 points with her two top seven finishes.

What's next? The Blue Jays compete in their second outdoor meet of the season on Thursday at the Wildcat Open hosted by Culver-Stockton.  

 

Men's Tennis

Men's tennis went 1-1 on the weekend. They fell to Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, 6-3, but bounced back to beat Illinois College 8-1 on Sunday. Senior Kyle Collins won all four of his matches, and sophomore Adam Fuchs won three.

What's next? The Blue Jays begin conference play on Tuesday with a home match versus Webster starting at 4:00 pm. 

 

Women's Tennis

The Westminster women's tennis team fell to Nebraska Wesleyan in their second match of the spring season, 8-1. Saturday's match puts the Westminster Blue Jays at 1-4 on the season. Their Sunday match was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

What's next? The Blue Jays will return to play following spring break with their home and conference opener versus Greenville College on April 8. 

 

Softball

Softball went 3-1 on the weekend with a sweep over Grinnell College on Saturday. The Blue Jays won game one 13-8, followed by a short-gamed 11-0 shutout win. On Sunday, they hosted NAIA Robert Morris. A walk-off homer by Alyson Hahn won the first game 6-5. The Blue Jays were unable to pull out the win in game two, ending with a 5-4 loss.

What's next? The Blue Jays added a home doubleheader versus Rhodes College on Tuesday to the schedule. Games are at 1 and 3 pm. On Wednesday, they travel to Coe College for a doubleheader, and on Friday they leave for their spring break trip in California.

 
 

Westminster Athletes of the Week

Glenn Teubner (men's track & field) and Alyson Hahn (softball) are this week's Westminster Athletes of the Week.

Glenn Teubner, a junior from Jefferson City, Mo., shattered the 3000-meter mark by almost 20 seconds. The four-year old record was replaced with his third place 9:19.33 time, earning the team six points. He also placed fifth in the 1500-meter run, earning four more points for the team.

Alyson Hahn, a junior from O'Fallon, Mo., went 2-0 from the circle and pitched a one hitter complete game shutout. Throughout the four games, she pitched 15 innings and held a 1.87 ERA with 12 strikeouts and just four earned runs. At the plate, she hit the walk-off home run to win the first game versus Robert Morris. She batted .375 on the week with three hits.
