Blue Jay Sports Week in Review and Westminster Athletes of the Week

April 11-17

Men's Golf

Men's golf placed seventh at the Illinois College McNaughton Invitational on Monday. They traveled back to Illinois College on Friday for a two-day Invite, and the Blue Jays took eighth at the Blueboy Invite to end their regular season. 
What's next? The Blue Jays are currently playing in the SLIAC Golf Tournament. They play two rounds today, followed by the third and final round starting at 10:00 am on Tuesday.
 

Men's Tennis

Men's tennis went 2-1 on the week. They dropped their first match of the week to Greenville, but played two on Thursday and won both. The Blue Jays defeated St. Louis College of Pharmacy 8-1 and went on to sweep Fontbonne, 9-0. 
What's next? The Blue Jays play their final regular season match on Tuesday at Missouri Valley. They then compete in the SLIAC Tournament starting on Friday 11:00 am. The Blue Jays will enter the tournament as the no. three seed and will face no. two Principia. 
 

Softball

Softball had a huge 4-0 week to move to 7-3 in conference play. The Blue Jays served Fontbonne their first doubleheader loss since 2010 and their first conference loss since 2014! The team won 7-5 and 10-5. They went on to sweep Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday in the SLIAC Game of the Week. A walk-off three run shot from junior Alyssa Johnson ended game one in the sixth inning, 10-2. The team went on to win game two, 13-6.
What's next? The Blue Jays travel to Greenville College today for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm. On Sunday, the Blue Jays celebrate senior day with a home doubleheader versus Spalding. Senior Shannon Perrigo will be honored prior to the 1:00 pm first pitch. 
 

Women's Tennis

Women's tennis went 1-1 on the week. They defeated Fontbonne 8-1 on Thursday, but lost to Principia 9-0 on Saturday.
What's next? The Blue Jays host Stephens College today at 4:00 pm, and on Wednesday, they host Webster University for their regular season finale starting at 4:00 pm.
 

Men's Track & Field

Westminster's junior Glenn Teubner and sophomore Addison Conway each broke a record at Saturday's Darrel Gourley Open hosted by William Jewell College. The Westminster Blue Jays placed 18th out of 23 with 14 points.
What's next? The men's track & field team will compete in the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College on Saturday starting at 10:00 am. 
 

Women's Track & Field

The Westminster women's track & field team tied for 22nd at the Darrel Gourley Open hosted by William Jewell College on Saturday, April 16. The Blue Jays earned three points with three competitors.
What's next? The women's track & field team will compete in the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College on Friday starting at 4:00 pm.
 

Baseball

What a weekend for Blue Jay baseball! Coach Hughes won his 100th Westminster game, senior Tyler Branneky broke his seventh career record, and senior Deion Hughes tied two season records on Saturday in the doubleheader wins! The team went on to complete the series sweep over Eureka on Sunday while sophomore Adam Mundle broke the game-day triples record! If you see any of them, make sure to congratulate them on their impressive weekend!
What's next? The Blue Jays travel to MacMurray College for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 pm.


Westminster Athletes of the Week

Alyson Hahn (softball) and Adam Mundle (baseball) are this week's Westminster Athletes of the Week!
 
Alyson Hahn, a junior from O'Fallon, Mo., grabbed three wins in the circle including two complete game wins with a 2.47 ERA. She threw 15 strikeouts through 17 innings. At the plate, Hahn batted .500 with two hits and one RBI. 
 
Adam Mundle, a sophomore from Des Peres, Mo., broke the game-day record with three triples in Sunday's 15-1 short-game win! He finished the week with four hits and five RBI.
