Ben Murphy Named Inaugural Men's Lacrosse Coach

The Westminster College athletic department appointed Ben Murphy as the inaugural men's lacrosse coach.

Murphy comes to Westminster after serving two seasons as the graduate assistant for Ohio Valley University. Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, he spent three seasons as an assistant coach at multiple high schools. He began his coaching career at Lexington Catholic High School in 2010, and moved to his alma mater, South Oldham, in fall of 2011 where he was the assistant varsity coach and the head junior varsity coach. He earned the 2012 Boys High School Assistant Coach of the Year award by the Kentucky Lacrosse Association, and he has served as a certified lacrosse official for six years.

Murphy played one season at NCAA Division III College of Mount St. Joseph before transfering to the University of Kentucky. He played three seasons with the Wildcats and was the team captain for the 2012-13 season.

Murphy is expected to receive his Master's in education from Ohio Valley University in May of 2016. He is a 2013 graduate of the University of Kentucky where he received his Bachelor's in communication.

Murphy will be in charge of scheduling 10 to 12 games, including home games, away contests and tournaments. He will also be responsible for recruiting 15 men to Westminster this fall to play for the inaugural Blue Jays lacrosse team.
