Baseball

Baseball is on their way to the NCAA Tournament after clinching the SLIAC Tournament title on Saturday! The Blue Jays quickly moved through the SLIAC Tournament with wins over MacMurray and Webster, placing them in the championship game. They dropped game one to Greenville, but with a double elimination set up, the Blue Jays redeemed themselves in game two with a 9-5 championship win! 

All-Tournament Team: Senior Collin Brinker is the 2016 SLIAC Tournament MVP. Senior Deion Hughes, senior Nolan Bax and sophomore Nick Bohlmann were also named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team. 

SLIAC Awards: The SLIAC announced the 2016 SLIAC awards and all-conference members Westminster's Deion Hughes was named the SLIAC Player of the Year and Collin Brinker was named the SLIAC Pitcher of the Year. The Blue Jays also earned eight all-conference spots. Hughes, Brinker, Adam Mundle and Tanner Branneky earned a spot on the first team, Tyler Branneky, Connor Hager, and Blake Strebler were placed on the second team, and Nick Bohlmann earned a spot on the third team.

What's next? The Blue Jays drew the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Visit the tournament page for all information pertaining to the Central Region Round of the NCAA Tournament here

 

Westminster Athletes of the Week

Nick Cessna and Nick Bohlmann are this week's Westminster Athletes of the Week.

Nick Cessna, a junior from O'Fallon, Mo., cleared the bases with a three run double to make the score 9-5 in the SLIAC Championship game. He totaled 29 putouts, eight RBI and four hits including a double and a triple. 

Nick Bohlmann, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., hit a three run homer in the SLIAC Championship, evening the score at 5-5. He earned a spot on the SLIAC All-Tournament team after batting in five runs, scoring four and posting 15 putouts. Of his five hits, two were triples and one was a home run.
