Junior Deion Hughes snapped the 14-year old Westminster career triples record in Wednesday's 7-6 loss to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Hughes hit his seventh career triple in the ninth inning, breaking Cory Ropers' record from 1999-2001. 

The Westminster Blue Jays grabbed the early lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to right field by sophomore Tanner Branneky to score junior Ryan Loethen. In the sixth inning, they added another run with a RBI single by Loethen to score junior Tyler Branneky. 

In the bottom of the sixth, RIT took the lead with a three RBI double. They added two more runs before the Blue Jays were able to pull out of the inning. RIT added two more runs in the seventh inning to take a 7-2 lead.

Westminster loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the eighth with Loethen at the plate. He reached on a fielder's choice and Hughes scored. Ta. Branneky then came up and hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Ty. Branneky. 

The Blue Jays held RIT from scoring in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Blue Jays a last chance to take the lead.  With two outs, Hughes smashed the career breaking triple to score freshman Chris Asher. Ty. Branneky continued the run with a RBI single to score Hughes and bring the game within one, but the Blue Jays grounded out to shortstop to end the inning and game.

The 7-6 loss to RIT brings the Blue Jays to 7-4 on the season.

Sophomore Jake Plassmeyer suffered the loss at the mound. He pitched 2/3rds of an inning and allowed four earned runs. Sophomore Seth Lehmen started at the mound and pitched five innings. Ta. Branneky pitched 1 and 2/3rds innings, and sophomore Miller Bowles closed out the game, pitching the final inning.  

Hughes went 2-3 from the plate with two runs scored; Ty. Branneky went 2-4 with two runs.

The Blue Jays take Thursday off from games before finishing up the Florida spring break trip on Friday, March 27, with a single game versus Keuka.
