Blue Jays Dominate Elmhurst on Day Two, 17-6

The Westminster baseball team grabbed their second win of their spring break trip with a 17-6 win over Elmhurst College on Tuesday. The Westminster Blue Jays are 2-0 on the trip and 7-1 on the season. 

The Blue Jays scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning off junior Tyler Branneky's two RBI double to jump out to an early lead. They scored two more runs in the fifth inning off RBI doubles by senior Tim Chambliss and junior Deion Hughes to take a 4-0 lead.

Elmhurst scored one in the sixth inning to get on the board, but the Blue Jays rebuttled with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Elmhurst managed to score five more runs in the next three innings, but the Blue Jays totaled nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings to win 17-6.

The Blue Jays finished the game with 17 hits including seven doubles and two triples. Chambliss led the offense, finishing with four hits, three doubles and three RBI. Freshman Nick Bohlmann went 3-3 from the plate with a triple, five RBI and three runs scored. 

Junior Will Miller grabbed the win on the mound, pitching six innings, striking out six and allowing only one earned run. 

The Blue Jays continue their trek on their Florida spring break trip on Tuesday, March 24 with a doubleheader versus Union College.
