Westminster Men's Basketball Defeated by Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa. – The Westminster men's basketball team drops to 0-2 on the season after an 87-54 loss to Buena Vista on Friday night.

Omar Wright gave Westminster a 2-0 lead with a layup 19 seconds in the game. The Beavers retook the lead after a free-throw and a layup before Wright put Westminster back on top with another basket. After each team exchanged points before Landon Harrison made a three-pointer to give Westminster an 11-9 lead. The Blue Jays extended the lead to 13-9 when Steven Brandt made a pair of free throws. After the Beavers cut the lead to 13-11 Trenton Barbour made a layup to give Westminster a 15-11 advantage.

After Barbour's layup the Beavers went on an 18-5 run to take a 29-20 lead. After a timeout by Westminster the Blue Jays cut the lead to six points off three-pointers from Harrison and Jonathan Geier. With just under two minutes left in the half Makygh Galbreath scored on a layup to make the score 41-36 in favor of the Beavers. Buena Vista scored the final six points of the half and went into halftime leading 47-36.

The Beavers held Westminster to just 18 points in the second half and came out with an 87-54 victory. The Blue Jays shot just 20 as percent a team in the half and committed 12 turnovers.

Emil Spriggs led Westminster in scoring with 15 points. Galbreath led the Blue Jays with five rebounds followed by Harrison with four. Harrison also finished second on the team in points with nine.

Stone Osterman recorded two blocks for Westminster in just five minutes of play.

The Blue Jays will stay in Storm Lake to take on Simpson tomorrow at 12 p.m.
