FULTON, Mo. – The Westminster Blue Jays fell to the Webster Gorloks on Thursday night in a high-scoring contest. The Gorloks remain in first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and extended their winning streak to eight games with tonight's win. The Blue Jays fall to 7-8 in SLIAC play and 8-13 overall.

After multiple lead changes and ties over the first few minutes of the game, the Blue Jays shocked the visitors and used a 13-2 run to take a 10-point lead over the Gorloks with 12:10 to go in the first half. Westminster led by as many as 12 points, but Webster showed why they are one of the top teams in the conference and retook the lead with 2:34. Webster held off the Blue Jays over the rest of the half to take a narrow 50-46 lead into halftime.

The Blue Jays chipped away the Webster lead in the second half and with 3:42 remaining Landon Harrison made a pair of free throws to tie the game at 84-84. The teams then traded three-pointers and Webster took a three-point lead with a jumper and a free throw. Jaxon Althaus made two free throws to get Westminster within a point 90-89 with 2:03 left on the clock. Webster extended the lead to four points with a three-pointer and the Blue Jays could not get their shots to fall over the final 30 seconds. Makygh Galbreath added a jumper with three seconds left remaining but Gorloks held for their eighth win in a row 95-91.

Althaus led Westminster with 34 points and was one of five Blue Jays to score in double figures. He was joined by Harrison (18), Ethan Thompson (16), Emil Spriggs (12) and Galbreath (10). Steven Brandt came off the bench to log six assists and four rebounds for the Blue Jays.

Westminster will play again on Saturday at 3:00 PM at Fontbonne.
