Westminster Men's Basketball Falters at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Westminster men's basketball team dropped a road game to Fontbonne Saturday afternoon 99-71. The Blue Jays are now 7-9 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play while the Griffins are 10-6.

Emil Spriggs made a three-pointer to open the game for Westminster before the Griffins replied with a trey to tie the game. Trenton Barbour put the Blue Jays up 5-3. The Westminster lead was short-lived as the Griffins scored six consecutive points to go up 9-6. A 10-2 run allowed the Griffins to pull away and take a 40-29 lead with 4:33 left in the first half. Fontbonne continued to keep the Blue Jays at a distance and ended the half leading 48-38.

The Griffins solidified their lead with a 17-4 rally to open the second half. Fontbonne shot 53.8% (21-39) in the half and forced 14 Westminster turnovers.

Omar Wright came off the bench to lead Westminster with 14 points followed by Landon Harrison with 10. Will Suellentrop tied for the game lead in rebounds with eight and recorded eight points.

Next up the Blue Jays will face Spalding on the road on Wednesday night.
