Greenville, IL 3/30/2023- The Westminster College baseball team traveled to Greenville, Illinois on Thursday to begin a three-game weekend series against the Greenville University Panthers. Game one was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved up to Thursday due to the weather forecast. Both teams came into the game undefeated.

The Panthers would get an early three-run lead, and the Blue Jays would score one run in the top of the third and the top of the fourth to make it 3-2. The Panthers would explode for 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game. They would tack on five more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Blue Jays would score four runs in the top of the seventh but it would be too little too late. Greenville would win game one 21-8.

Derek Archer (St. Charles, Mo / Francis Howell North) got the start in his first appearance since his one-hit complete game against Grinnell on March 12th.  The freshman would go three innings, giving up seven runs on six hits, walking three, and striking out one batter. The Blue Jays would go deep into the bullpen throwing five different pitchers after Archer came out of the game.

The Blue Jays were led by Coltin Green ( St. Anthony, Mo. / St. Elizabeth) who went two for three with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Ryan Mills (Festus, Mo / Hancock) hit a solo home run in the top of the third to get Westminster on the scoreboard.

Westminster will be back in action on Saturday, April 1st to finish the series against Greenville in a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
