Blue Jays Lose In A Shootout

Fulton, Mo 4/8/2023- The Westminster Blue Jays baseball team was back in action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays and Griffins had a nine-inning shootout with the Griffins coming out with the lead 17-16.

 Game 1- Fontbonne University: Box Score

The Westminster Blue Jays offensively had a day. The Blue Jays ended the game with 16 runs and got 14 hits. Everyone in the lineup helped the Blue Jays get their runs. Let's start off with Senior center fielder Steven Diaz (Highland, Il. / Highland). Diaz went 1-5, but that didn't stop him from scoring 2 runs, getting 3 RBIs, and 1 home run. Diaz led the Blue Jays in a late comeback against the Griffins. Sophomore Skyler Bushey (Saint Albans, Vt / Bellows Free Academy) had a day going 1-4 scoring one run and getting 2 RBIs. Bushey got one of his RBIs in the 8th inning by getting a clutch walk to keep the inning going. Designated hitter Quin Adelson (Louisville, KY/ North Oldham) exploded on the ball today going 2-5 scorings 3 runs, and having 1 RBI. Adelson started the game with a solo line drive home run to left field. As well as got 3 walks today. Senior first baseman Spencer Keiser (Old Monroe, Mo/ Winfield) went 1-3 today scoring 2 runs getting one RBI, and getting 3 walks. Keiser also got the only stolen base for the Blue Jays in the game. Junior Third Baseman Austin Mayton (Wentzville, Mo/ Fort Zumwalt North) went 2-4 and causally scored two runs for the Blue Jays. Both Catchers for the Blue Jays helped offensively Ryan Mills (Festus, Mo / Hancock) had the start for the catchers he went 0-1 but got 2 RBIs. 1 by grounding out with a runner on third and the other taking a walk to score a run. Coltin Green (St. Anthony, Mo/ St. Elizabeth) came in for Mills in the 5th and hit a home run to left field to get his day started. Green ended the game going 1-3 scoring 2 runs and getting 1 RBI. Last but not least Senior Matt Lukins (Clark, Mo/ Rock Bridge) helped the Blue Jays turn the line up by going 3-4 scoring 2 runs, and having 4 RBIs. The Blue Jays had 40 At bats getting 14 hits and 11 walks.

Defensively starting for the Blue Jays Trent Morrow (Russellville, Mo/ Russellville) pitched 4 innings facing 23 batters. In relief for Morrow was a handful of Blue Jays. Starting Corbin Harrison (Eldon, Mo/ Eldon) came in to face 5 batters giving up 2 hits and 1 walk. Kaleb Hinkle-Pruett (Alton, Il./ Roxana) came in after Harrison. Hinkle-Pruett was locked down facing 9 batters only giving up 1 hit and 1 run. Kaden Eirhart (Altamont, Il./ Altamont)  came in to pitch 2 innings facing 10 batters giving up 1 hit and 2 walks. Brian Henke (Silex, Mo/ Silex) came in to finish off the game almost going flawlessly but gave up 1 walk.

The Westminster Baseball team will be back in action. Tuesday, April 11th at Baptist Bible College first game starts at 2 P.M.
