Blue Jays Take The Series In A Dominate Saturday Doubleheader

Elsah, IL 05/06/2023- The Westminster Blue Jays baseball team finishes out the regular series in a conference doubleheader against Principia College. The Blue Jays won both games. Game 1 19-0 and game 2 17-2. The Blue Jays end the regular season going 23-17 and a conference record 12-9. 

 

Game 1: Principia College: Box Score 

 

The Blue Jays started Bode Gebbink (St. Joseph, IL/ St. Joseph-Ogden). Gebbink finished the season (7-1). Gebbink pitched 4.1 innings giving up 1 hit, striking out 4 batters, and giving up 2 walks. Coming in to finish the game for Gebbink were Jake Waeltermann (Barnhart, Mo/ Seckman), Brooks Chandler (De Land, Fl/ DeLand), and Hayden Sanborn (Arnold, Mo/ St. John Vianney). Waeltermann pitched 0.2 innings with 2 strikeouts. Chandler pitched 1 inning facing 3 batters. Sanborn closed the game out facing 3 batters and struck out all 3 of them. 

 

Troy Romero (Trophy Club, TX/ Byron Nelson), Payton Whitehead (Belleville, Il/ Belleville West), Quin Adelson (Louisville, KY/ North Oldham), and Jason Pesold (Arnold, Mo/ St. Pius X) led the Blue Jays offensively. Romero went 3-4 with a triple, an RBI, and scored 2 runs. Whitehead is 2-2 with 2 walks, an RBI, and scored 3 runs. Adelson went 2-2 scoring 3 runs and 3 RBIs. Pesold went 3-5 with an RBI and scored 2 runs. Coltin Green and Chris Louie had home runs in the game. Green hit 2 home runs with 7 RBIs. Louie hit 1 home run and got 2 RBIs. 

 

Game 2: Principia College: Box Score

 

Pitching for the Blue Jays in game 2 Trent Morrow (Russellville, Mo./ Russellville) pitched 4 innings facing 17 batters. Giving up 4 hits and struck out 3 batters. In relief for Morrow; Brian Henke (Silex, Mo/ Silex), Nathan Shepard (Warrenton, Mo/ Warrenton), and Kaleb Hinkle-Pruett (Alton, Il/ Roxana). Henke pitched 1 inning facing 7 batters giving up 2 hits and struck out 3 batters. Shepard pitched 1 inning facing 4 batters and gave up 1 hit. Closing the game Hinkle-Pruett pitched 1 inning and went 3 up and 3 down. 

 

Matt Lukins (Clark, Mo/ Rock Bridge), Steven Diaz (Highland, IL./ Highland), Green, and Skyler Bushey (Saint Albans, VT/ Bellows Free Academy) led the Blue Jays in game 2. Lukins went 3-3 with an RBI and scored 2 runs. Diaz went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Green went 3-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Bushey finished his historic year by going 3-6 with a double and 2 home runs. He sits at 16 home runs for the season and is tied for third all-time in SLIAC history for most home runs in a season. 

 

The Blue Jays next game is at home on May 9th against Conference Rivals the Greenville University Panthers. The time of the game is TBD
