Greenville, Mo 4/1/2023- The Westminster Blue Jays baseball team was back in action against the Greenville Panthers. They played a doubleheader in game 1 the Blue jays lost in an extra inning brawl 8-7. In game 2 they lost 9-7.

 

Game 1- Greenville University: Box Score

 

The Blue Jays had an intense Game against the Panthers. The Blue Jays were led by Bode Gebbink (St, Joseph, Il. / St. Joeseph-Ogden). Gebbink pitched 4 innings facing 23 batters giving up 6 hits and getting 2 strikeouts. In relief for Gebbink, Kaden Eirhart (Altamont, IL / Altamont) pitched 2 innings facing 9 batters and got 2 strikeouts. Matt Trout (Lee's Summit, Mo. / Blue Springs South), Hayden Sanborn (Arnold, MO / St. John Vianney), and Jake Waeltermann (Barnhart, MO / Seckman).

 

Offensively for the Blue Jays in the 1st inning Sophomore Skyler Bushey (Saint Albans, Vt / Bellows Free Academy) hit a 2-run home run to center field. In the fourth inning, the Blue Jays had to come back from a 5-2 Panthers lead. Matt Lukins (Clark, Mo / Rock Bridge) started the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field. Later in the inning, senior Steven Diaz (Highland, Il. / Highland) hit a 3-run home run to right center scoring Austin Mayton (Wentzville, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt North) and Spencer Keiser (Old Monroe, Mo / Winfield).

 

Game 2- Greenville University: Box Score

 

In game two the Blue Jays started the game off strong with a two-run home run from Quin Adelson to give them an early 2-0 lead. Diaz would score in the third to make it 3-0. The Panthers would tie it in the bottom half of the third to make 3-3. Greenville would take a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Adelson would hit another two-run home run in the top of the sixth to put the Jays back on top 5-4.

 

The Panthers would tie in the fifth and tack on four more runs in the sixth to take a 9-5 lead. Keiser hit a two-run home run in the 8th inning to make it 9-7. Westminster could not complete the comeback and lose game two to the Panthers.

 

On the mound for the Blue Jays was junior Trent Morrow (Russellville, Mo. / Russellville). He would go 6 innings with two strikeouts.

 

Adelson went 3-3 in the game with 4 RBIs and two home runs. Keiser went 1-2 with two RBIs.

 

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to St. Louis to take on Washington University
