Blue Jays Lose Game 1 To Gorloks 7-3

Sauget, IL 4/14/2023- The Westminster College baseball team traveled to Sauget, Illinois for game one of a three-game series against the Webster University Gorloks Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the game. The Gorloks would come back to tie the game and take the lead. They would go on to win the game 7-3.

Skyler Bushey (Saint Albans, Vt / Bellows Free Academy) started the top of the second inning off with a bang, hitting a home run to left field, his ninth long ball of the season. Then with two outs in the inning, Quin Adelson (Louisville, KY / North Oldham) hit a single to left field, Austin Mayton (Wentzville, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt North) would reach after an error was committed to the Gorlok third baseman. Matt Lukins (Clark, Mo / Rock Bridge) stepped up to the plate and he has been swinging a hot bat as of late, riding a three-game hitting streak. He would deliver again, with a base hit to right center field to score both Adelson and Mayton to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.

The Gorloks would score a run in the bottom of the second and three more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead. Webster would extend their lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 7-3.

Trent Morrow (Russellville, Mo. / Russellville) got the start for the Blue Jays and he would pitch four innings, surrendering six runs on ten hits. Morrow would strike out one and walk one batter. Nathan Shepard (Warrenton, Mo. / Warrenton), Brooks Chandler (De Land, FL / De Land) and Kobe Allen (Maryland Heights, Mo / Pattonville) came in and combined pitched four innings of baseball, giving up four hits and one run. Allen would walk one and record a strikeout.

Bushey and Lukins both went 2-4. Bushey had one run and one RBI off the solo shot and Lukins had two RBIs.

The Blue Jays will be back in action tomorrow to cap off the series with a doubleheader against the Gorloks. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM
