Blue Jays Salvage Split With Game Two Win

Memphis, Tn. – The Blue Jays softball team came back from an opening game 9-1 loss to post a 12-10 extra inning win over the Rhodes College Lynx. The win finished off a great weekend of softball for the Jays and evened their record at (4-4).

The Blue Jays struck first in the top of the first inning.  Emily Esquivel led off the game with a single and then stole second. Laney Rosson singled and Esquivel took third.  Rosson stole second.  With runners on second and third Brooke Laidley hit a sacrifice fly to center driving in Esquivel.  Katie Price would double to left field to drive in Rosson and the Blue Jays would lead 2-0.

Rhodes would answer in the bottom of the first with four runs to take the lead 4-2. In the top of the second, Brooke Laidley single up the middle to drive home a pair of runs to tie the game.

Rhodes College would get a run back in the second and score another run in the third inning for a 6-4 lead.

The Blue Jays would explode for five runs in the top of the fifth.  The big hits in the inning were an RBI single by Rosson, a Laidly bases loaded walk brought in another run. The most crushing hit of the inning was a two-run triple off of the bat of Mackenzie Myers and just like that the Blue Jays had a 9-6 lead.  The two teams would trade runs over the next couple innings before the Lynx would tie the game going to extra innings tied at 9-9.

The Blue Jays would waste no time in the eighth tallying three runs to take a commanding 12-9 lead.  The big hit during the inning was a Myers RBI double that gave the Blue Jays the lead for good leading to a 12-10 win in extra innings.

On the mound Price (3-2), facing the Lynx for the third time in seven days, grinded through 8 innings to get the victory for the Blue Jays.  She gave up 8 earned runs on 12 hits striking out one and walking none to get the win.  The Blue Jay offense pounded out a season best 15 hits on the day to ensure the victory.

The Blue Jays will be back in action at home this coming Wednesday as they host Washington University in a double header.  The game times are set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
