Softball: Blue Jays at Washington University Double Header

Fulton, Mo. - The Westminster College Blue Jay Softball team travels to the Washington University Bears Sunday for a double header. Head Coach Sara Stafford and her team will take the field for a double header on Sunday March 21st against Washington University for the second time this year. The Bears and Blue Jays played two back on March 10th in Fulton with each team taking a game.

 Taking a look at the Westminster College Blue Jays (5-5, 0-0 SLIAC):

  • The Blue Jays were picked to finish second in the 2021 SLIAC Pre-season Softball Coaches Poll.  The Jays received two first place votes.
  • The Blue Jays split a double header with the Bears last time out on March 10th. Westminster won game one 9-8 in extra innings on a walk off hit by Brooke Laidley. The Bears won game two 10-5.
  • The Blue Jays are led at the plate by senior Mackenzie Myers who is hitting .543 with two home runs and eight RBI and an on base percentage of .556. Laidley follows hitting .425 with five doubles and a team leading ten RBI's.  Emily Esquivel is batting .364.
  • Junior Laney Rosson leads the team with nine walks drawn.
  • Rosson leads the team in steals with five and Esquivel follows her with three thefts.
  • The Blue Jays are led on the mound by senior Katie Price (4-1) with a 4.57 ERA she has 21 strikeouts while allowing nine walks.

Taking a look at the Washington University Bears (2-5, 0-0 UAA):

  • Last time out the Bears were swept in a double header with Wartburg College 9-0 and 10-0 back on March 13th.
  • Payton Irwin leads the Bears hitters with a .474 batting average with an on base percentage of .545. Katie Gould is hitting .409 with an on base percentage of .500. Eimear Cunningham is batting .400.
  • Kayla Nommensen leads the Bears in extra base hits with three doubles, a triple and a home run and also leads the team in RBI's with nine.
  • Madison Denton leads the Bears on the mound where in 5 appearances and one start she is (1-2) with a 6.68 ERA.
