Carlinville, Ill., March 27, 2021 – The Westminster Blue Jay softball team began SLIAC play on the road at the Blackburn College Beavers. The team had a very solid day on both sides of the plate in posting a pair of victories. They won 6-1 in game one and 3-0 in the second game to record the sweep.

Game 1:  BOXSCORE

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a bases-loaded single by Kasey Ginder that drove in two runs.  Emily Esquivel would add another RBI single to make it 3-0. In the third inning, the Blue Jays would add another run on a Brooke Laidley home run, her second of the season that made it 4-0.

The Beavers would get on the board in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch and the score would sit at 4-1.  Esquivel would triple with two out in the fourth inning and Laney Rosson would walk. Both runners would score off of wild pitches to make the score 6-1 and that is where the game would end in favor of the Blue Jays.

Katie Price (5-3) went the distance on the mound giving up one run on seven hits, walking one, and striking out six.

Game 2:  BOXSCORE

Game two was another masterful pitching performance by the Blue Jays as Erin Carr (2-5) threw a complete game three-hit shutout.  She walked five and struck out 2.  She faced 29 batters on her way to her first college shut out.

Mackenzie Myers would homer leading off in the second inning to give the Jays the only run they would really need.  The Jays would tack on insurance runs in the fourth and fifth inning.  Ginder would continue her good day with an RBI single in the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, Rosson would double with one out and after a sacrifice play brought Rosson to third, Katie Price would connect on an RBI single to make it 3-0. The doubleheader sweep improves the Blue Jays to 7-9 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
