4/25/25 Fulton, MO – The Westminster Blue Jays pieced together two strong all-around performances on Saturday to sweep visiting Webster University in a doubleheader. Behind timely hitting and excellent pitching, the Blue Jays took Game 1 by a score of 7-2 and followed it up with a 2-1 win in Game 2.
In Game 1, Westminster used a three-run third inning and a two-run homer from Paige Cruzan in the fourth to take command early. Cruzan had a day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Taylor Engelmeyer added two hits, including a two-run double in the third inning.
Pitcher Payton Dudenhoeffer was efficient in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing seven hits and just two earned runs. She also chipped in at the plate with a single in the fifth that helped spark a two-run frame.
Game 2 saw fewer runs, but the Blue Jays stayed hot with the bats, tallying 11 hits in the 2-1 victory. All the offense came in the first inning, where Ellie Bedsworth drove in the game's first run with a double and Peityn Thomas helped herself with an RBI single.
Thomas was stellar in the circle, going the distance and scattering just four hits while striking out two. The defense was flawless behind her, and the Blue Jays held on to secure the sweep. Chloe Ferguson led the hits in Game 2 with a 3-for-3 effort, while Cruzan and Engelmeyer each contributed multi-hit performances.
With momentum on their side, Westminster will travel to Spalding on Sunday, April 27, for another conference doubleheader.
