Blue Jays Fall to Augustana

Fulton, Mo. – The Westminster women's soccer team was defeated by Augustana College by a score of 2-0. The Blue Jays drop to 0-4 on the season.

The visiting Vikings came out of gates strong with five shots in the first 15 minutes of the contest. In the 19th minute, Augustana was able to sneak a ball past Westminster goalie Sarah Cradick (Maryland Heights, Mo./Pattonville) to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Cradick played all 90 minutes in goal and made seven saves.

At the end of the first half the score was 1-0 in favor of Augustana. The Vikings also held 8-7 shot advantage over the Blue Jays.

However, the Vikings controlled the second half, outshooting the Blue Jays 9-1 and drawing five corner kicks to Westminster's two. Augustana eventually scored their second goal of the game in the 75th minute on a header from a corner kick.

Liz Hammond (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) and Madison Ekern (Chicago, Ill. / Whitney Young) each had two shots for Westminster.

The next game for the Blue Jays is against Hendrix on Friday, Sept. 13 at 4 PM.
