Elmhurst, Ill. – The Blue Jay women's soccer team played a strong defensive game against Elmhurst College on Saturday. However, Elmhurst was able to score a goal in the final minute of regulation to win 2-1. The Blue Jays fall to 0-6-1 on the season.

Elmhurst found the back of the net 16 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead.

Despite allowing this early goal the Blue Jays maintained their composure and answered with a goal of their own in the 12th minute. Natalie Schulte (Linn Creek, Mo. / Camdenton) scored her first goal of the season on a breakaway to tie the game at 1-1. Schulte led the Blue Jays with two shots and has led the team in shots in each of the past three games.

"Natalie not only has been an offensive threat but a key playmaker in all of our goals. Her perseverance paid off today and it's exciting to see her get back on the scoreboard for us. Not only does it motivate her, but the team as well knowing she's found her niche." said Westminster Head Coach Wendy Sanchez.

The first half concluded with the score tied at 1-1 despite Westminster being outshot 12-3. Sarah Cradick (Maryland Heights, Mo. / Pattonville) recorded six saves in the half for Westminster.

The battle between Elmhurst's offense and Westminster's defense continued throughout the second half. Elmhurst attacked the net with 13 shots in the half. Cradick and the Blue Jay defenders held Elmhurst in check for the majority of the half.

However, with the clock winding down and potential overtime approaching, an Elmhurst forward found open space and kicked the ball into the net with just 15 seconds remaining to give Elmhurst a 2-1 lead.

The Blue Jays will look rebound from today's loss when they travel to play Rose-Hulman at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 28.
