Westminster Women’s Soccer Defeats Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Westminster women's soccer team recorded their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Spalding. The Blue Jays improve to 1-8-1 on the season and 1-1 in SLIAC play.

Emily Siegel opened the game with a goal 4:49 into the first half to give the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead. The goal was Siegel's second of the season. Spalding answered quickly with a goal of their own at the 6:36 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Westminster outshot Spalding 6-5 in the half. 

Westminster took the lead back in the second half when a shot from Natalie Schulte slipped past the Spalding goalie to put Westminster up 2-0. Schulte scored again in the 81st minute to give the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead. Her second goal of the game came after beating two Golden Eagle defenders and firing a shot from the top of the box past the Spalding keeper. She now leads the Blue Jays with three goals on season.

Schulte led Westminster with five shots while Siegel and Madison Ekern each recorded two shots.

Sarah Cradick played all 90 minutes in net and recorded six saves.

The Blue Jays will return home to play Eureka at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
