Blue Jays Lose 1-0 In Championship Game Against Panthers

Greenville, IL 11/5/2022- The Westminster College women's soccer team took on the Greenville University Panthers in the championship game of the SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament. The Blue Jays defeated Fontbonne University in penalty kicks to advance and Greenville defeated Webster University 3-1. The Blue Jays and Panthers tied 1-1 in their game at Greenville and the Jays came out on top 1-0 in the game in Fulton.

Westminster had a chance to score early when Kelsey Gordon (St. Louis, MO / Lindbergh) had a good look at the net, but the Panther goalie would make the save. Gordon would have another attempt in the twenty-seventh minute, but her shot would go wide of the net.

The Panthers would strike in the thirty-fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead late in the first half.

The Blue Jays would threaten in the early stages of the second half with Lauren Halamicek (St. Louis, MO / Oakville High School) getting a shot on goal but was turned away. Hannah Shylanski (O'Fallon, MO / Fort Zumwalt North) had a shot go off the right post. Unfortunately, time would run out on the Blue Jays as the Panthers held on to win 1-0 and become the 2022 SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament Champions.

After the game, it was announced that Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton High School) and Payton Montana (Barnhart, MO / Seckman) were named to the 2022 All-Tournament Team.

The Blue Jays end their season with a record of 10-6-4 overall and 9-3-3 in the SLIAC. Congratulations to the women's soccer team on a great season and an exciting tournament run.
