Blue Jays Dominate In Conference Opener

Fulton, MO 9/13/2022- After going 1-2 in the non-conference portion of their schedule, the Westminster women's soccer team opened up SLIAC play on Tuesday against the Principia College Panthers on Blue Jay Field. The Blue Jays would score in bunches, scoring four goals in the first half and then one more in the second half to win the match 5-0 and go 1-0 in the conference.

Senior Peyton Montana (Barnhart, MO / Seckman) found the back of the net first off an assist from Paige Sunneberg (Wentzville, MO / Holt). Fellow senior Maddy Lawton (Wentzville, MO / Timberland) would score next to put the Blue Jays up 2-0. Montana would score her second goal of the game, this time off an assist from Savannah Feltrop (Jefferson City, MO / Helias). Kaitlyn Halamicek (St. Louis, MO / Oakville) would score the fourth goal of the game right before half time giving Westminster a commanding 4-0 lead.

Sunneberg would be on the receiving end of an assist this time as she found the net after a great pass from Hannah Shylanski (O'Fallon, MO / Fort Zumwalt North) to score the fifth and final goal of the game. Westminster would go on to win 5-0 and improve to 2-2 on the season and are now 1-0 in the SLIAC.

The Blue Jay defense held the Panthers to just two goals all game and one of them was on goal. The offense was in control of most of the game, putting a total of twenty-two shots and twelve of them being on goal.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Friday, September 16th when they travel to Eureka, IL to take on the Red Devils. That game will kick off at 5:00 PM.
