Fulton, MO 10/26/2022- The Westminster College women's soccer team took on the Blackburn College Beavers on Wednesday night in the final regular season home game of the season. It would be all Blue Jays as they would win 8-0. Westminster improves to 9-4-3 on the season and 8-2-3 in the conference. Blackburn falls to 1-15-0 and 0-13-0 in the conference.
The Blue Jays currently have the second seed. They await the result of Webster University vs Spalding University on Thursday night and the Jays have a big matchup on Saturday against the top-seeded and undefeated Fontbonne University. Westminster will see where they stand after the dust settles on Saturday and find out when/where they will play when the conference tournament starts next week.
Westminster would score early and often in this one. They would score five goals in the first twenty-five minutes of the first half and then tack on three more goals in the second half.
Payton Montana (Barnhart, MO / Seckman) led the way with two goals. Her sister Abbey Montana (Barnhart, MO/Seckman) would score the game's first goal at the 6:16 mark. Madi Lenk (Troy, MO / Troy Buchanan High School) scored in the 12th minute of play. Savannah Feltrop (Jefferson City, MO / Helias), Annalise Beck ( St. Louis, MO / Notre Dame High School) and Delaney Kaiser (Jefferson City, MO / Jefferson City) would all score in the first half.
P Montana scored her first goal in the 51st minute and her second goal in the 81st minute in the second half. Payton Heevner (Warrensburg, MO / Warrensburg) scored in the 56th minute.
Kaitlyn Halamicek (St. Louis, MO / Oakville) would get three assists in the game.
Mia Turner (St.Louis, MO / Affton) started in goal and played forty-five minutes. Delaney Burks (Ozark, MO / Ozark) took over in the second half and she made a save on the one shot she faced.
The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, October 29th when they travel to St. Louis to take on the Fontbonne University Griffins. That game kicks off at 1:00 PM.
