Griffins Defeat Blue Jays 1-0 In Season Finale

St. Louis, MO 10/29/2022- The Westminster College women's soccer team traveled to St. Louis on Saturday to take on the Fontbonne University Griffins in the final game of the regular season. The Griffins end the season undefeated in the SLIAC after defeating the Blue Jays 1-0, they are 14-2-2 overall and 14-0 in the conference. The Blue Jays fall to 9-5-3 on the year and 8-3-3 in the SLIAC.

Hannah Shylanski (O'Fallon, MO / Fort Zumwalt North) had a shot hit off the right post at the 36-minute mark and looked to have given the Blue Jays a goal. The Griffins would hold the Blue Jay offense to just three shots in the game and one shot on goal after that moment. The shot on goal came from Lauren Halamicek (St. Louis, MO / Oakville High School) near the end of the first half.

The Griffins would score in the 71st minute to take a 1-0 lead and that would be the final score of the game.

Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton High School) had a busy day in goal, facing twelve shots and making eleven saves. The Griffins would take seventeen shots in total.

The Blue Jays will be the fourth seed and host the fifth-seeded Spalding University In the first round of the SLIAC tournament on Tuesday, November 1st. The game time is TBD at the time of this writing. This article will be updated once the game time is announced.
