Fulton, Mo 9/21/2022- Blue Jay Field was the home of the SLIAC women's soccer game of the week as the Westminster College Blue Jays took on the Fontbonne University Griffins in a battle of the last two undefeated teams in the SLIAC. Both teams had a 2-0 conference record coming into the game. The Griffins would defeat the Blue Jays 1-0 after a goal late in the second half.

The two teams battled to a draw for the first sixty-five minutes of play. That would change when the Griffins' offense was able to find the back of the net at the 65:08 mark. Blue Jay goalie Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton High School) faced a relentless Fontbonne attack all night, facing sixteen shots on goal and making fifteen saves. Unfortunately, she was unable to keep this one out of the goal. The Griffins would take a total of twenty-six shots on the night.

On the flip side, the Blue Jay offense could never get organized and pose any real threat outside of the two shots on goal that they would have towards the end of the game. Kelsey Gordon (St. Louis, MO / Lindbergh) and   Hannah Shylanski (O'Fallon, MO / Fort Zumwalt North) both had good looks as they tried to tie the game near the 85:00 mark.

With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 3-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in the SLIAC. They will play again on Saturday, September 24th when they travel to St. Louis to take the Webster University Gorloks for the first time this season. That game is set to kick off at 1 PM.
