Volleyball Defeats Platteville in Five, Falls to Gustavus

The Westminster women's volleyball team had a short turnaround time between Friday night's matches to Saturday's matches at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament, but the Blue Jays came out strong Saturday morning and defeated UW-Platteville in five sets. The Blue Jays then fell 3-0 in the last match to Gustavus Adolphus to end the tournament 2-2. The Westminster Blue Jays are now 3-2 on the season.

The Blue Jays lost the first set to Platteville, 25-20, before bouncing back in set two to win 25-22. A close third set ended with the Blue Jays winning 26-24, but Platteville battled back to win the fourth set 25-22 to send the match into the deciding set. The Blue Jays grabbed the 15-12 set five victory to win the match.

Junior Amanda Kiso led the offense with 18 kills and a .486 hitting percentage. Junior Kayla Reeg held the pace with 32 assists and led the team with 19 digs. Senior Lexi Collier finished with four blocks.

The Blue Jays jumped right into the second match of the day, this time facing Gustavus Adolphus. They were unable to keep up with Gustavus and lost in three (25-14, 25-17, 25-22). 

Collier led the front line with nine kills and a .429 hitting percentage while Reeg finished with 23 assists. Reeg also led the team in digs with 11.

The Blue Jays return home and begin conference play on September 12 at Greenville College. They face Iowa Wesleyan at 11:00 am and Greenville at 1:00 pm.
