Blue Jays Extend Winning Streak To Six With Wins Over Spalding & Principia

The Westminster volleyball team extended their winning streak to six games on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Spalding and a 3-0 win over Principia. The Blue Jays are now 12-5 on the season and 8-2 in conference play. They are currently tied for second in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) standings with Webster.

The Westminster Blue Jays first played Spalding and easily took the first set, 25-14. They won the second 25-21, but Spalding came back to win the next two, 25-20 and 25-23. The deciding set was won by the Blue Jays, 15-12, to lift them over Spalding. Sophomore Hannah Marshall led the net with 18 kills while senior Lexi Collier defended it with five blocks. Junior setter Kayla Reeg recorded 47 assists, and freshman Bridget Ringwald recorded 19 digs. Marshall and Reeg had 18 digs each. 

The Blue Jays turned around and faced Principia. The first set was a close one, but the Blue Jays managed a 25-21 win. They swept Principia in the second set, 25-13, before closing out the match with a 25-14 set three win. Marshall led the net again with 11 kills and junior Amanda Kiso finished with four blocks. Reeg recorded 30 assists. Senior Caroline Will and freshman Nikki Testerman led the team with 10 digs each. 

The Blue Jays look to extend their winning streak to seven on Tuesday, October 6, as they travel to Carlinville, Illinois for a match versus Blackburn College. First serve is at 7:00 p.m.
