Blue Jays Sweep MacMurray in Senior Night Season Finale

The Westminster volleyball team swept MacMurray College in their Senior Night season finale. The 3-0 win ends the Blue Jays' regular season with a 16-2 conference record and a 21-11 overall record. They finish second in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and enter the conference tournament as the number two seed.

The Blue Jays won with the scores 25-12, 25-14, 26-24. 

The Blue Jays received to start the match and they jumped out to a 7-2 lead with a four-point run. MacMurray brought the set within three, but the Blue Jays pulled ahead 12-6. After the Blue Jays took a 14-7 lead, MacMurray called a timeout. Kills from junior Amanda Kiso, junior Gabby LaRose and sophomore Hannah Marshall forced MacMurray to their second timeout as the Blue Jays took a 19-9 lead. The Blue Jays' four-point run was stopped with a MacMurray block, but freshman Nikki Testerman put down a kill to grab the 21-10 advantage. A four-point run with kills from senior Lexi Collier and junior Kayla Reeg ended set one with a 25-12 win.

The Blue Jays started set two with a LaRose kill to spark a four-point run. A block from Kiso and Marshall and a kill from Marshall aided in the 4-0 lead. MacMurray found their way back in the set with multiple kills, 9-6. Collier started a seven-point run with a kill, and after two service aces by Testerman, MacMurray called a timeout. The Blue Jays' streak ended coming out of the timeout, bringing the score to 16-7. MacMurray came within seven, but Marshall grabbed a kill to send her to the line to serve. She served an ace, bringing the lead to 20-11. A kill by Reeg brought the Blue Jays to 24-14 and Testerman served her third ace of the set to win 25-14.

The Blue Jays started set three with a 3-0 lead and a MacMurray attack error brought the set to 6-2.  MacMurray made their way back into the set with a 7-1 run, taking the 10-7 lead. A kill by Marshall brought the serve back to the Blue Jays, and sophomore Kendall Johnson served an ace to tie the set at 11-11. The next two points came from Blue Jay block assists from Reeg, Kiso and Marshall. When Marshall scored the next point off a kill to take the 14-11 lead, MacMurray called a timeout. MacMurray scored the next four points, taking the lead, 16-15. MacMurray pulled out to a 24-20 lead, looking to send the match into a fourth set. Collier put a stop to their run with a kill and Marshall had a kill to bring the game to 24-22, MacMurray. Johnson served an ace, putting MacMurray in a panic. A MacMurray attack error knotted the game at 24-24 and a block by Kiso and Reeg gave the Blue Jays the 25-24 advantage. Kiso laid down a kill on a MacMurray overpass to end the six-point comeback run, ending the set with a 26-24 win.  

Marshall and Collier tallied more than half the Blue Jays' kills. Marshall led the court with 14 kills, and Collier finished with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Kiso added six kills with a .400 hitting percentage. Reeg set the tempo with 32 assists and posted 12 digs on the match. 

The Blue Jays aced MacMurray 12 times. Marshall recorded five service aces and Testerman had three. Reeg and Johnson each added two to the win.

The Blue Jays also recorded 14 blocks assits on the night. Kiso blocked five attacks while Marshall and Reeg recorded three each. 

The Blue Jays now head into postseason play at the SLIAC Tournament as the #2 seed. They will play #3 Webster University in the semifinal round on Saturday, November 7. Greenville, the #1 seed, will host the tournament. The match times are TBD.
