Men's Soccer Defeats Lakeland 4-1

The Westminster men's soccer team defeated Lakeland College 4-1 on Saturday, September 5, in Jacksonville, Illinois. The win brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 1-1 on the season.

The Blue Jays scored three goals in the first half while holding the Lakeland Muskies to just one shot on goal. Senior Drake Trease scored his second goal of the season just 3:38 into the game with assists from sophomore Austin Chandler and senior Kyle Collins. Sophomore Daniel Barone scored in the 26th minute with the help of Collins and Trease. Chandler scored the final goal of the half in the 41st minute. 

The Blue Jays scored their fourth and final goal in the 70th minute. Sophomore Mason VonderHaar scored from 10 yards out off junior Keagan Cavanah's cross into the middle.

With 75:15 on the clock, Lakeland found the net with a header into the left side of the goal to end the Blue Jays' chance at a shutout. 

The Blue Jays took nine shots on goal throughout the game, including the four goals. 

Junior goalkeeper Raul Belman (1-1) received the win in the net. He finished the 90 minutes with three saves and just one goal allowed.
