Sheehan Records Hat Trick in 13-0 Shutout Win

The Westminster men's soccer team recorded their fourth shutout of the season on Saturday, October 3, with a 13-0 shutout victory over Iowa Wesleyan. The Blue Jays are on an eight-game winning streak and are currently leading the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) with their 2-0 conference record. They are 8-1 on the season.

Junior Tripp Sheehan recorded a hat trick during the game with three goals scored in the first half. Sophomore Austin Chandler scored the game-winning goal just 3:22 in with the assist from senior Daryl Doran. Junior Eli Sherman scored the second goal with an assist from senior Kyle Collins in the 13th minute, and Sheehan put in the third goal with senior Kevin Knobbe's assist in the 17th minute. Sheehan scored againl in the 29th minute with Collin's assist, and Knobbe scored off sophomore Mauricio Mateo's assist in the 35th minute. Sheehan scored the sixth and final goal of the first half in the 38th minute off a penalty kick.

Freshman Peter Plakorus scored just 2:42 into the second half. Sophomore Blake Hausman scored in the 51st minute with Plakorus' assist, and just three minutes later Mateo scored off freshman Cooper Smith's assist. Junior David Immanuel scored two consecutive goals with assists from freshman Danny Chicas and sophomore Mason VonderHaar. Freshman Patrick Bromstedt scored off Smith's assist in the 81st minute, and VonderHarr scored the 13th and final goal of the game in the 86th minute. 

The Blue Jays took 36 shots on goal. Sherman led the team with six shots on goal. Sheehan took four shots on goal and scored on three of them.

Raul Belman (8-1) recorded his fourth shutout of the season after spending 90 minutes in the net. 

The Blue Jays host MacMurray College on Tuesday, October 6, at Columbia College. First touch is at 5:00 p.m.
