Six Consecutive Wins With 3-2 Overtime Win Over Augstana

The Westminster men's soccer team has six consecutive wins with the 3-2 overtime win over Augstana on Sunday, September 20. The Westminster Blue Jays are now 6-1 on the season.

The Blue Jays had two shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the game, and in the 19th minute, junior Tripp Sheehan crossed the ball to junior Drew Cook. His header landed in the middle of the goal, giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 advantage.

Minutes later the Blue Jays found the back of the goal again as junior Eli Sherman's shot went into the middle of the goal off sophomore Austin Chandler's assist.

In the 30th minute, Augstana took a high shot to the right side that snuck past Westminster's goalkeeper Raul Belman to bring the score to 2-1. The Blue Jays took five more shots throughout the half, but were unable to find the net. 

Augustana took a low shot into the middle of the goal in the 62nd minute to tie the game at 2-2, and the despite one more shot by the Blue Jays, the game remained knotted after 90 minutes of play. 

Just 2:34 into overtime, Sheehan passed the ball to freshman Cooper Smith who placed the ball with sophomore Dustin Seibolt for a shot into the left side of the net to end the game with a 3-2 victory.

The Blue Jays outshot Augustana 15-13 and finished with eight shots on goal and three goals. Sherman took three shots on goal with one goal, and Cook had two shots on goal with a goal. Seibolt's goal was his only shot of the game. 

Belman (6-1) was credited with the win in goal after stopping three shots on goal.

The men's soccer team sees the field again on Saturday, September 26, as they open up conference play versus Fontbonne at home at 5:00 p.m.
