The Westminster men's soccer team completed their second consecutive shutout with a 1-0 win over the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) on Friday afternoon. The win is the team's third consecutive, giving them a 3-1 record on the season.
The Westminster Blue Jays took an early lead when junior Eli Sherman took a shot in the 18th minute off senior Drake Trease's pass. The ball hit the cross bar then dropped in the goal, giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 advantage. The Blue Jays took four more shots on goal in the first half, but were unable to find their way past the Ozarks' goalkeeper again.
The Blue Jays took just one shot on goal in the second half compared to the Ozarks' four, but both goalkeepers held their ground to keep the second half scoreless.
Junior Raul Belman (3-1) completed the shutout win in goal with six saves.
Junior Drew Cook led the team with three shots on goal. The team took eight shots on goal total and 18 shots throughout the 90 minutes of play.
The Blue Jays play Central College in Iowa next on Wednesday, September 16, at 4:00 p.m.
