Men's Soccer Shuts Out Webster, Remains Undefeated In SLIAC

The Westminster men's soccer team shut out Webster University on Tuesday evening to remain undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play. The 7-0 win brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 11-2 on the season and 5-0 in the conference. 

The Blue Jays took an early 1-0 lead as senior Daryl Doran scored on a free kick in the ninth minute. In the 17th minute, junior Tripp Sheehan scored a goal off freshman Cooper Smith's assist. Sophomore Blake Hausman scored the third and final goal of the first half in the 33rd minute with Sheehan's assist.

The Hausman and Sheehan duo scored again in the 53rd minute to take the 4-0 lead. Junior Drew Cook scored in the 65th minute, and Webster knocked the ball into their own goal just a minute later to give the Blue Jays the 6-0 advantage. Cook scored his second goal, the final goal of the game, in the 71st minute off junior Peter Plakorus' assist to put the Blue Jays up 7-0. 

The Blue Jays outshot Webster 23-5. The team took 15 shots-on-goal and connected on seven of them. Hausman and junior Josh Jaycox each recorded three shots-on-goal while Cook connected on both his shots-on-goal.

Junior goalkeeper Raul Belman (11-2) spent 64:38 in goal and posted one save. Freshman Tanner Moesch finished out the remaining 25:22 in goal but saw no action. 

The Blue Jays travel to Carlinville, Illinois on Saturday, October 17, for their sixth conference game versus Blackburn College. The men's game begins at 1:00 p.m.
