Men's Soccer Shuts Out Illinois College, 4-0

The Westminster men's soccer team grabbed their first shutout win of the season with a 4-0 victory over Illinois College on Sunday evening. The win brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 2-1 on the season. 

The first half remained scoreless until just under four minutes left of play. Senior Drake Trease passed the ball up the middle for senior Kevin Knobbe to score the first goal of the game.  

The Blue Jays started the second half with a sophomore Blake Hausman goal off junior Tripp Sheehan's throw-in in the 51st minute. 

The Blue Jays connected again with the back of the net in the 74th minute when freshman Cooper Smith placed the ball in after it took a slight deflection off the defender. Junior Drew Cook had the assist.

Cook scored the fourth and final goal just four minutes later off an assist from sophomore Mauricio Mateo

Junior goalkeeper Raul Belman was credited with the shutout victory. Throughout 90 minutes in goal, Belman had one save. 

The Blue Jays host the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) for their 2015 home opener on Friday, September 12. The first touch is at 3:00 p.m. at Fulton High School.
