Blue Jays Lost Both Games On Day 2 Of Warrior Spring Fling

Conway, AR 2/19/2023- The Westminster College softball team was back in action on Sunday as they competed in day 2 of the 2023 Warrior Spring Fling. They would lose to Centenary College 12-0 in game 1 and lost to Hendrix College 20-5 in game 2.

Game 1- Vs Centenary College: Box Score

The Blue Jays had a rough start to the day, losing to Centenary 12-0, and could only get four hits in the game. Haley Miller (O'Fallon, MO / Liberty) got the start for the Blue Jays. She would strike out one batter and throw 92 strikes on 137 total pitches. The defense settled in with only one error in the game after committing seven in the game on Saturday. Freshman Madison Scott (Oklahoma City, OK / SFS Pathaways Middle College) got her first collegiate hit, going 1-2 from the plate.

Game 2- Vs Hendrix College: Box Score

The Blue Jays faced off against Hendrix College in a rematch of Saturday's nine-inning nail-biter. The Warriors had big innings in the first and second, scoring ten runs in the first and nine in the second to take a 19-0 lead. Westminster would get on the board at the bottom of the second. Raigan McKee (Oologah, OK / Oologah) started the inning with a single and then would steal second base. Tatum Bradshaw (Winfield, MO / Winfield) drew a walk to put runners on first and second. The freshman Scott would hit a single to center field and collected her first RBI of her career as McKee scored on the play. Scott would steal second base as well. Maddie Marrero (Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge) scored Bradshaw on an infield single. The Blue Jays would have runners on first and second in the bottom of the third after Eva Gannon (Wentzville, Mo. / Holt) reached on an error and McKee drew a walk. Kelsey Logan (Fulton, Mo / South Callaway) would hit a single down the right field line to score both runners. Emily Esquivel (San Diego, Ca. / Eastlake) would single with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th. Gannon would hit a double to the center field gap, scoring Esquivel. The Warriors would win the game with a final score of 20-5.

The Blue Jays will look to bounce back next weekend when they travel to Columbus, Mississippi, for a three-game series against the Mississippi University for Women. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday, February 25th with the first game starting at 12:00 PM. Game three will be on Sunday, with the first pitch at 12:00 PM as well.
