Fulton, Mo 4/12/2023- The Westminster College softball team hosted the Webster University Gorloks for a Wednesday doubleheader at Blue Jay Field. The Jays would take a 3-0 lead in game one, but Webster would rally back and win the game 5-1. The Gorloks would also win game 2, 13-0.

Game One: Box Score

Westminster would strike first in the bottom of the first inning. Maddie Marrero (Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge) drew a leadoff walk, and Emily Esquivel (San Diego, Ca. / Eastlake) and Eva Gannon (Wentzville, Mo. / Holt) both singled to load the bases. Haley Chandler (Bowling Green, MO / Bowling Green) got a base hit between the third baseman and the shortstop to drive in Marrero and keep the bases loaded. This would force an early pitching change by the Gorloks. The new pitcher would come in and get two quick outs. Payton Dudenhoeffer (Jefferson City, MO / Helias Catholic) stepped to the plate and hit a two-out double to left to score Esquivel and Gannon to give Westminster a 3-0 lead.

Haley Miller (O'Fallon, MO / Liberty) got the start on the Blue Jays mound and would pitch five and two-thirds innings, striking out three batters. She would give up 5 runs on 11 hits and walk 4. Caroline Bentley (Bakersfield, MO / Bakersfield) came in to finish the game and would go one inning and a third giving up one hit.

The Gorloks would score one run in the top of the fourth inning, two in the top of the fifth, and two more in the top of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead. The Blue Jays would score one run in the bottom of the sixth but could not get that tying run across the plate, losing game one 5-4.

Game Two: Box Score

The Gorloks would take over in game two, scoring 13 runs total and holding the Blue Jays to one hit. Marrero would break up the no-hitter in the top of the fourth inning with a lead-off single to left field.
