Blue Jays Fall In Doubleheader Against Owls

Columbus, MS 2/25/23- The Westminster softball team was back in action after the Hendrix College Spring Fling tournament. They played Mississippi University for Women. They lost the first game 5-0 and lost the second game 12-1.

Game 1- Vs Mississippi University for Women: Box Score

In their first matchup against the Owls. The Blue Jays had a battle of the pitchers in today's game, losing to MUW 5-0, and could only get 3 hits in the game. Haley Miller (O'Fallon, Mo/ Liberty) got the start for the Blue Jays. She pitched 6 complete innings, striking out 5 batters, and only gave up 5 hits. Sophomore Raigan McKee (Oologah, Ok/ Oologah) got the first hit of the game to center field. Junior Emily Esquivel (San Diego, Ca/ Eastlake) hit a single to left field. Freshman Gretchen Capps (Louisiana, Mo/ Louisiana) got her first collegiate hit to left field.

Game 2- Vs Mississippi University for Women: Box Score

In the second matchup, starting for the Blue Jays is Senior Erin Carr (Woodlawn, IL/ Christ Our Rock Lutheran). Carr ended up in 3.2 innings and struck out 1 batter. The Owls started off strong, scoring 5 of their 12 runs in the first inning. Westminster ended up scoring their first run of the game in the 2nd inning with a bases-loaded walk from Kelsey Logan (Fulton, Mo/ South Callaway). 3 other Blue Jays got walks in the inning as well. Raegan Dickinson (Ozark, MO/ Ozark) got the first walk of the inning. Payton Dudenhoffer (Jefferson City, MO/ Helias Catholic) and Carr got a walk in the same inning. Haylee Chandler (Bowling Green, MO/ Bowling Green) got her first collegiate hit today as well. The Owls ended up winning the game 12-1.

 

The Blue Jays will play one more game tomorrow against the Owls at 12:00 P.M.
