Yellowjackets Defeat Blue Jays In Home Opener

Fulton, Mo 4/5/2023- The Westminster College softball team hosted Graceland University for a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. It would be the first time the Blue Jays have been able to play on Blue Jay field all season. Today's game vs the Yellowjackets was a makeup game from the four-game series the two teams were supposed to have back in March. Graceland would win both games, winning 14-2 in game one and 9-1 in game two.

Game One: Box Score

Haley Miller (O'Fallon, MO / Liberty) started her second game in as many days, starting against Greenville University on Tuesday. In game one vs Graceland, she would go two and one-third innings, giving up eight runs on six hits. Caroline Bentley (Bakersfield, MO / Bakersfield) came to relieve Miller in the third inning. Bentley would finish the game, pitching three and two-thirds innings. She would surrender six runs on nine hits, striking out three batters.

Offensively for the Blue Jays, Raegen Dickinson (Ozark, MO / Ozark) launched her second home run of the season over the left field fence to lead off the bottom of the second inning. Later, she would score Emily Esquivel (San Diego, Ca. / Eastlake) from third base with a sacrifice fly to center field. She would go 1-2 on the day with two RBIs. Esquivel went 2-3 with a run scored.

Game Two: Box Score

Payton Dudenhoeffer (Jefferson City, MO / Helias Catholic) started game two for the Blue Jays. She would pitch the full game. She would get hit nine times and give up nine runs, four earned, and struck out two batters.

The Blue Jays would get runners in the corners in the bottom of the fifth after Dudenhoffer hit a single and moved Madison Kordik (St. Louis, MO / Mehlville) up to third base. She was pinch running for Dickinson, who led off the inning with a base hit to center field. Allison Dye (Harrisonville, MO / Harrisonville) would ground out to the shortstop, but it was enough to score Kordik from third.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, April 8th when they host Eureka College for an Easter weekend doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Blue Jay Field.
