12/6/24 Fulton, MO – The Westminster College Blue Jays women's basketball team defeated MUW in a thrilling 96-80 victory at home. The win displayed the Blue Jays' depth and balanced attack, setting the tone for their conference campaign. 

Westminster came out firing, putting up an impressive 26 points in the first quarter and maintaining control throughout the game. A strong third quarter, where the Blue Jays scored 29 points, gave them the cushion they needed to fend off a late push from MUW. Lauren Jones led the charge for Westminster with a game-high 21 points, including four three-pointers. Her efficient shooting and ability to find space were key in the team's offensive success. Annette Ramirez was close behind, contributing 20 points, six assists, and two steals while playing an instrumental role in facilitating the offense. Avylina Powell-Qualo added 11 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting, while also grabbing three rebounds. Olivia Hixson chipped in 12 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, and led the team defensively with five steals. Aly Bullock anchored the paint with a game-high 12 rebounds, complementing her four points. There were other valuable contributions, with players like Caragan Lockard and Evelyn Valero stepping up. Lockard finished with eight points and five rebounds in just 14 minutes, while Valero added six points on perfect shooting from the field. 

The Blue Jays' offensive efficiency and defensive pressure were the defining factors in the game. They forced turnovers and turned them into scoring opportunities, while their balanced scoring made it difficult to defend. Westminster will look to continue their momentum as they prepare to host Lyon College on Saturday, December 7. With a strong start to conference play and key players finding their stride, the Blue Jays are ready to make a statement this season.
