2/20/25 Fulton, MO – It was a record-breaking night for Westminster women's basketball as Annette Ramirez cemented her place in history, becoming the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's all-time leading scorer during the second quarter of the Blue Jays' dominant 88-66 victory over Principia.
Ramirez delivered a sensational performance, finishing with 41 points on 15-of-34 shooting, including four three-pointers. She also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double while adding three steals and two assists. The milestone moment came midway through the second quarter when she knocked down a mid-range jumper to surpass the previous career scoring record. The home crowd erupted in celebration as play briefly stopped to acknowledge the historic achievement.
The Blue Jays found themselves trailing 18-13 after the first quarter but quickly turned things around in the second, exploding for 31 points to take control of the game. Westminster's defense tightened up as well, holding Principia to just 14 points in the period. Ramirez's hot hand fueled the run, while Avylina Powell-Qualo provided key contributions in the paint, scoring 13 points and pulling down four rebounds.
Westminster maintained their momentum in the second half, outscoring Principia 44-34 over the final two quarters. Aly Bullock was a force on the boards, securing a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with five points, while Olivia Hixson added nine points and five rebounds. Gizelle Carreto also provided a boost with 10 points, including two three-pointers.
With the win, the Blue Jays improved their record as they gear up for their final game of the regular season, which will be played at home. The upcoming contest will also be Senior Night, a special evening to recognize the contributions of Westminster's graduating players. Tip-off for the season finale is set for February 22 at 1:00 PM, as the Blue Jays look to close out the year with another strong performance in front of their home crowd.
